A Fast Changing Habitat

The Himalayas

Written by “Forrest” Group 4V 4 Feb 2008

The Himalayas are in Nepal and are the tallest mountains in the world. They are a giant plateau (flat piece of land). People talk about the Himalayas as the “roof of the world."

The Ganges and the Yangtze are the biggest rivers that start in the Himalayas.
The impact of global warming is melting the snow caps and glaciers of the Himalayas and at least half of this frozen plateau could disappear by 2030.

This is an example from "Habitats" homework where the students had to read an article, share ideas and write a group report in their own English. It is relatively challenging, but they appreciate the importance of using their own words, rather than simply copying data.
